Updater...

This update comes from contributor Inge Oliver:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to compliment Michael Ali for his excellent piece, well put, Michael!

In addition, here some new info:

Tony Thurmond is trying to get support for an item, he wants to put on the agenda under "Council as a whole", a working meeting in Richmond, addressing the problem of guns and drugs in our streets.

He suggested to invite all mayors, council members, chiefs of police, community groups etc. of Bay Area cities, who face the same problems we have here in Richmond.

"This event could be coordinated by the office of the Police Chief, The Office of the
Violence Prevention Coordinator, and the Offices of the City Council and City Manager,
utilizing help from Trina Jackson and city staff." he wrote.

Basically I think this is a good idea, as long as it doesn't turn out to be yet another attempt
of a taxpayer's paid election campaign.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRUTH TAZER NOTE: I agree with Inge, to a point. I believe that Thurmond is serious about getting to a solution, but his recent track record (ala the 950k in proposed taxpayer backing for an agenda item that got pulled) makes me weary of how all of this would go down.

I'd love to see everyone's take on this. A "combined forces" plan of action might be a way to help the process.

Keep of the good work and keep the pipeline of information open to the community. The City Hall will come to it's knees yet!

Just shows me how worthless this current City Council is. We will get rid of a lot of them during the election! This killing has got to stop.

The killing will ONLY stop when all of us start taking personal responsibility for each other as a people.

Black people in particular need to go back to the old values that got us where we are and stop blaming everybody for situations in which we hold the true power. If your child won't listen to his mother, father, sisters, uncles, what makes you think the teacher can make him mind? What makes you think the police and politicians can do for our children what WE won't do?

We can change our commmunities and families. But we have to put up or shut up.

Mr. Thurman is not the most brightest bead on the rosary is he?
