RICHMOND - A man is in critical condition after being shot tonight (6/24) near the Richmond BART station.

Richmond police said the victim was walking on the 500 block of 17th Street around 7:45 p.m. when he was approached by one or two men who demanded his valuables, and then shot him twice.

The victim was transported by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he remained with injuries that police said are life threatening.

Police said they have a witness with a vague description of the gunman, but no solid leads.

Richmond, city of "Pride & Purpose," where thugs operate with impunity, and citizens live in fear. I can't be the only one who sees something wrong in that picture.

A culture of neglect among the city council is leaving it to RPD to pick up the pieces. Unfortunately, those "pieces" are far too often people's lives.

What ever happened to the fabled phantom "Office of Violence Prevention," or is it still in the "consultation" stage? You know, the stage where they're still deciding to meet at Hotel Mac or Hs Lordship's...

I pray that the victim recovers fully and that the perps are rounded up and dealt with.

You know Captain, your point is well taken! I see in many of the comments posted here that residents of the City of Richmond are coming out and quite clearly stating that they are simply tired of the Mayor and her do nothing Administration!

The utter disgust, contempt and frustation by our community is well founded with her policies about having lost the "War On Violence"
